![]() And also in this case, something that Mike Flanagan does really well, he hides little things in the background that are story elements. It's usually the cinematographer and director wanting to make things really dark and moody, and then the producers are saying I want to see my actors! And then the audience wanting to see all the little nuances and subtleties in the actor’s performance. You know there's two elements always at play. I'm sort of on the edge of my seat to see how things look on Netflix because I wasn't able to really see it and grade and do color timing in our normal process. So how that translates to the screen for the viewer is tough. So all the post work was done remotely via iPad. And in fact we finished on February 25th, right before COVID hit. With streaming and compression, people are watching the material not necessarily in the best viewing environment. JK: Yeah that's a big challenge, especially today. How were you able to shoot for darkness while still making sure it was all coherent, that we could still see? So, it was just serendipitous in terms of me coming on board at the crux of the story and being able to make things a little bit darker.ĪK: Speaking of the lighting, there's a lot of actual darkness here. And up until then, some of the lighting and camera work had been a bit more traditional. I had come on board to replace somebody else, and it was just the right time in terms of the arc of the story, where things sort of get a little bit darker and heavier thematically. But I quite enjoyed the experience and the challenge. ![]() So, it's a little daunting to say the least. There was never any fear or trepidation, just tons of support. Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, they provide such an amazing environment for artists to bring their touch to the projects. I stepped into it when things were already kind of established, but I had a little bit of an assignment to take things further visually. ![]() What was it like stepping into this series knowing that precedent?
